For my family, Maine is one of our favorite places to visit year round. Growing up we would rent summer houses, took countless day trips to Ogunquit, visited our grandparents in Kennebunk, and walked the town during the crisp winter. Probably my favorite part of every summer is when my aunt and uncle rent a family house and we get to visit with cousins and family from around the world. The Ogunquit area always holds a special place in my heart, especially with all the precious memories.
Before my sister leaves for Ireland we wanted to take a day trip to celebrate her new adventures and also have a 'make-shift' Father's Day because she will be out of the country. Only about an hour and fifteen minute drive, we packed our car and brought bagels for the ride. When we arrived in Ogunquit (after a nap during the ride up) we walked the beach for almost an hour and then walked into town, stopping at our favorite shops along the way. We also ate a fabulous lunch at Cornerstone Pizza and Beer!
Ogunquit is the perfect day trip from Boston because there is so much to do in the small town. The beach is beautiful, even if you just want to take a walk or throw a football around. All the restaurants are amazing, especially if you're looking for seafood or lobster rolls. You really can't go wrong where you eat in Ogunquit! The shops are very unique with fun sculptures, artwork, and jewelry. It really is the perfect spot to grab lunch and an ice cream then walk around. Perkins Cove is also really cute, and is a great spot to see the boats and water.
