Delicious spooky Halloween berry pie

It's SPOOKY SEASON! You heard that right, Halloween is around the corner which means it's time to pull out your pumpkin spice candle and indulge in a fall-inspired dessert. This is one of our favorite family recipes with berries and my Nana's delicious and super easy to make pie crust. Guests will love the dark filling and festive crust!

INGREDIENTS

Nana's pie crust

2 cups flour

pinch of salt

3 Tbl sugar

12 Tbl unsalted butter

2 egg yolks

4 Tbl cold water

Pie Filliing

2 QT blueberries, cleaned *can be substituted for frozen, pending time of year

2 QT blackberries, cleaned *can be substituted for frozen, pending time of year

Zest of 1 lemon

1/2 tsp cinnamon

dash nutmeg

ping of salt

2 Tbl cornstarch

DIRECTIONS

Nana's pie crust

  1. In a bowl of a food processor, pule flour, salt, sugar and butter until it resembles coarse meal.

  2. Add egg yolk and water through the feed tube of machine. Continue to keep machine running until dough ball forms.

  3. Divide dough into two equal parts.

  4. Place dough in plastic wrap and form two disks. Refrigerate until chilled.

Pie Filliing

  1. Stir all the above pie filling ingredients in a large bowl and put in rolled pie crust, inside a pie dish.

Assembling the pie

  1. When making the pie, roll both disks out on a floured surface. Once rolled out, place one disk across pie dish and press down on the sides and bottom so it forms a pie crust.

  2. For the second disk, cut out a Jack-o' Lantern shape with a sharp knife (including triangles and a toothy mouth). Carefully drape on top of the pie and pinch ends so sealed.
